Archbishop of What?
THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND CONTINUES HER DEPARTURE FROM SCRIPTURE BY APPOINTING A USURPER AT THE TOP.
It could be claimed that the appointment of Dame Sarah Mullally as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury on Friday 3rd October 2025 is legitimate. This is because her appointment was through the established process, with the Crown Nominations Commission recommending her to the Prime Minister and then the King, who is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Her appointment was announced by the UK government and was met with widespread recognition.
However, for conservative Bible-believing Anglicans her appointment, which ignored 1,428 years of history, is seen as a departure from holy Scripture. Biblical Anglicans such as the Church of England (Continuing) believe that the Holy Bible requires only a male episcopacy and presbytery. Women are not for ordination in accordance with Divine revelation.
1 Timothy 2:11-12 says: “Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence”. This passage is a timeless, universal prohibition against women holding ordained teaching leadership roles over men in the church. For those who disagree with this interpretation and who assert that the apostle Paul, the inspired writer of the text, is prejudiced and merely expressing his own opinion that can be ignored 1 Corinthians 14:37 is significant. “If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord”.
We believe that ordaining women is unscriptural, and an unauthorized and illegitimate seizure of authority over men in the church. We believe that the Church of England has made itself an abomination to the Lord since the passing of the Ordination of Women Measure in 1992 by encouraging women to usurp the authority and headship of men by taking on that office which pertains only to men. Instead of repenting of this the Church of England has now appointed a woman as the new Archbishop of Canterbury. We believe that the appointment of a female Archbishop of Canterbury undermines the sufficiency of holy Scripture and provoking of the Lord Jesus Christ’s displeasure. We call on the Church of England to return to its Reformation principles, and to the sole supreme authority of Scripture for her doctrine and practice.
